Unfinished business

What went wrong? And what’s next for our planet? In December 2009, leaders of 193 nations came together in the hope of producing a historic new Copenhagen Protocol – a global framework to protect the Earth from the threat of climate change. The result was an ambiguous commitment to limit rising temperatures. No emissions targets. No enforcement. No deadlines. Some would say no progress at all. From preliminaryry talks in Bonn and Bangkok to the corridors of the Copenhagen Summit, our cameras follow a year in the life of Laurence Tubiana, the European Union’s chief negotiator on climate change. She leads us through the twists and turns of these complex deliberations and introduces us to all key players. Tubiana and a team of experts go live on camera at the scene of the negotiations to explain the advances and setbacks as they happen. It turns out that our planet will have to wait for a real roadmap to fighting climate change. In the end, Copenhagen is just the beginning.
