How far can we design Life? The question is especially poignant today, in an age where genetic engineering is not only possible, but performed daily. But actually, Man has been manipulating Life for over 10,000 years. From super-productive domestic animals and crops to colorful fragrant flowers to the many-a-varied Man’s Best Friends – Man is constantly bringing new “improvements”, in an endless pursuit after the better tasting, the better looking, and the more “manageable”.
Today, we are so surrounded by these Superlives, we rarely come in contact with any other type of creature. We are completely dependent on them, and so are they completely dependent on us.
In two parts, the program looks at the stories of these life-forms that Man has manipulated: how they came to permeate our planet, and how the latest science is overcoming the species boundary to create new Superlives with astounding abilities. How have we benefitted, and what does the future hold? And how should we think about coexistence, in this world that holds us all?
