Great Crossings: Asia from India to Japan
Photo: Night & Day
Since the dawn of time, humans have pondered the meaning of life. They turned to the forces of nature for answers, and from there wove the path to a spirituality beyond. Soon temples were being erected to honor the gods, in a desire to solidify the sacred. Throughout the millennia, Asia emerged as a unique cradle of religions and philosophies. Despite the turbulence of history, the appearance in the 20th century of totalitarian and anti-religious ideologies, and the Westernization of ways of life, most of the Asian continent has kept faithful to its religious practices.
In a close look at these people and practices, we embark on a great crossing of Asia, following the Route of Religion from India to Japan.
